Using Tags With Assets & Vulnerabilities

Tags are a useful way to add metadata to your Assets and Vulnerabilities. You can assign tags to Assets and Vulnerabilities individually or you can bulk assign tags. This data can then be used to query either assets or vulnerabilities.

Adding a Tag to an Asset

In order to assign a tag to an asset, select an asset and click on ‘Add tags’.  Enter the value of the tag and press ‘Enter’. You can add multiple tags as well. Now click on ‘Add’ and the tag will be assigned to the asset which you have selected.

Bulk Assign Tags to Assets

If you want to assign tags to multiple assets, you can select all the assets for which you need to assign tags and then click on ‘Add tags’. Enter the value of the tag and press ‘Enter’. You can assign multiple tags as well. If you have a large number of assets and if you want to assign tags to a subset of those assets you can create a 'View' which will make it easier for you to assign tags. More about views here.

Bulk Assign Tags to Vulnerabilities

In order to assign tags to multiple vulnerabilities, you can select all the vulnerabilities for which you need to assign tags and then click on ‘Add tags’. Enter the value of the tag and press ‘Enter’. You can assign multiple tags as well. If you have a large number of vulnerabilities and if you want to assign tags to a subset of those vulnerabilities, you can create a 'View' which will make it easier for you to assign tags. Example Scenarios for Tags Usage

There are a number of ways in which you can use tags. The following are a few ways in which tags are generally used. This will give you an insight into how tags can be put to use when you have to manage a huge number of assets and vulnerabilities

  • If you have a large number of teams working on your assets, you can assign the name of the team as a tag to the asset which belongs to that team. If 'Team1' is working on three of your Android Applications, you can assign the tag 'Team1' to all three of those Android Applications which you have onboarded onto Strobes as assets. Later if you want to identify which assets belong to  'Team1' , you can just add a filter by using the tag value and retrieve the list of assets.
  • If you have multiple network segments you can add a tag to all the assets which belong to a specific segment. Later when you want to view the assets which belong to that segment you can apply a filter based on the tag value to retrieve only those assets.

  • If you are using multiple frameworks, you can add the name of the framework against each asset and later when you want to retrieve all the assets using a specific framework you can apply a filter using the tag value to retrieve those assets.

  • If you have a lot of office locations, you can add tags to all of the networks based on your office location and later if you want to retrieve the assets based on a location you can apply a filter using the location name as the tag value.
