What Is an Engagement in Strobes?

An engagement in Strobes is a structured security assessment — a defined scope of work where vulnerabilities are discovered, tracked, and managed from start to finish.

Every engagement represents one assessment effort, whether that is a penetration test carried out by an external vendor, an internal vulnerability assessment run by your own team, or an AI-driven automated assessment.

Engagements give your security program structure. Instead of managing findings in a flat list, you group them under the engagement that produced them, track progress through defined statuses, assign team members, set delivery dates, and measure completion. This makes it easy to know the state of every active assessment at a glance and to archive completed work for historical reference.

Strobes supports three types of engagements:

  • Vendor Managed — An assessment conducted by an external security vendor or penetration testing firm.
  • Self Managed — An assessment conducted by your internal security team.
  • Agentic Pentesting — An AI-driven assessment that runs automated reconnaissance, vulnerability testing, and reporting autonomously.
